MR (ELM) Electronic Lockout Module Kit

The MR Electronic Lockout Module (ELM) adds a safety shutdown input to the Modern Racing electronic battery disconnect system.

Designed for race cars requiring an externally triggered electrical shutdown, the ELM allows a compatible ECU output, pressure switch, or other external safety circuit to command the Modern Racing electronic battery disconnect to the OFF position. This provides an additional layer of protection beyond the standard manually operated battery disconnect switches.

The ELM acts as the control interface between the external safety device and the electronic battery disconnect. Under normal conditions, the battery disconnect operates through its standard control switches. When the connected safety circuit provides a shutdown command, the ELM signals the electronic battery disconnect to remove main battery power from the vehicle.

This makes the ELM particularly useful for applications where the electrical system needs to respond automatically to a specific safety condition rather than relying solely on a driver or crew member to operate the master switch.

How the ELM Works

The MR Electronic Lockout Module serves as the interface between an external safety input and the Modern Racing electronic battery disconnect.

Normal Operation:
The electronic battery disconnect is controlled using its standard manual switches and the vehicle's electrical system remains powered.

Safety Shutdown:
When the connected ECU, pressure switch, or other compatible safety circuit provides the appropriate shutdown command, the ELM signals the electronic battery disconnect to turn OFF, removing the vehicle's main battery power.

This allows the battery disconnect to respond automatically to an external safety condition without requiring someone to physically operate the master switch.

Important Compatibility Information

The MR Electronic Lockout Module is not a standalone battery disconnect.

A compatible Modern Racing electronic battery disconnect is required for operation. The ELM is a control module that provides the external shutdown input for the electronic battery disconnect system.

The external triggering device, such as an ECU output or pressure switch, is not included with the ELM and must be selected based on the requirements of the vehicle and electrical system.
